William Harvey Schweitzer, age 86, of West Branch, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2007 at West Branch Regional Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1920 in Flint and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1938. He attended the University of Montana before starting work with Michigan Bell Telephone Company in 1940. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army Signal Corps, and served three years, including time in the China Burma India Theater. He mustered out as Captain, to continue his career with Michigan Bell as a business office manager. He retired after 38 years to the Sand Lake community where he served as President of the Sand Lake Heights Men's Association and President of the Sand Lake Senior Citizens Organization. He was a member of the Sand Lake Road Patrol and joined the Tawas Area Presbyterian Church in 1995, serving as an elder and committee chairperson. He married Edna Elizabeth Draper on June 26, 1942, she survives him. They have three living children, Ann Fondaw of Walled Lake, Bonnie Haynes of St. Paul, MN and Kenneth Schweitzer of Roscommon, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Tawas Area Presbyterian Church, East Tawas, MI. Pastor Rick Vogeley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Tawas Area Presbyterian Church.
