William Edward Barker, age 93, passed away December 11, 2017 at his home in St. Helen. He was born to William F. and Cullie (Matheney) Barker on November 1, 1924 in McKenzie, TN. William had lived in St. Helen since 1983 previously of Lansing, MI. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII from June 1943 until March 1946. William was a member of both the St. Helen VFW post 5680 and the American Legion post 416. He loved wood working and building furniture in his garage. He kept busy during retirement by running Bills Sharpening Service. Bill was a Jokester, and enjoyed making people laugh. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
William is survived by his daughter Norma (Charles) Nickerson of Eaton Rapids, son Ken (Liz) Barker of Frederickson, MD, and son David (Lisa) Barker of Lansing. He has 9 wonderful grandchildren, and 20 adorable great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Betty, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.
A Graveside service for William will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Fairview Cemetery in St. Helen, MI. There will be a visitation beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Those wishing to pay their final respects are welcome to come.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family.
