Virgie Louise Mcdowell

April 21, 1941 — February 26, 2016

Virgie Louise McDowell, age 74, passed away February 26, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. Virgie had lived in Prescott, MI for 25 years previously of Melvin, MI. She was born on April 21, 1941 in Otter County West Virginia to Roy and Madeleine (Conard) Elswick. Virgie married James F. McDowell Jr. on January 12, 1962 in Brady Lake Ohio. She held many hats during her life, including a nurse at Tolfree Memorial Hospital for 25 years, and she also worked as a hospice and home care nurse. She was a full time pastor at God Covenant Church in Prescott where she preached, led bible study groups and cared for her congregation. She also enjoyed planting flowers and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Virgie is survived by her husband Rev. James McDowell Jr., children, Jeffery (Paula) McDowell, Kenneth McDowell, Ronald (Anna) McDowell, Douglas (Maria) McDowell, Catherine (Neil) DeCaen, and Daniel McDowell. She has 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a sister Mary Alice (Tommie) Nicholas, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, February 29, 2016 at God Covenant Church 203 N. Sherman St. Prescott, MI 48756. A Luncheon in her memory will follow at the church.
