Victor Tahill

October 26, 1929 — July 31, 2011

Victor Tahill of West Branch, Michigan passed away on July 31, 2011, after a brief illness. Victor is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary (Martinez), his sister Alice Budnick Scherba, three daughters, Sherry (Dwight) Puls, Karen (Mark, dec’d. 1989) Albertson, and Lisa (Bill) Pearce, and granddaughter Tara Lynn Albertson. He was born in Windsor, Ontario, on October 26, 1929. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit in December 1947. He started working for Michigan Bell Telephone Company in 1948. He was drafted by the Army in 1951 and served with the 73rd Armored Division during the Korean conflict, and was honorably discharged in 1953. He returned to work at Michigan Bell and continued there for 35 years. Upon retirement, Victor started his second career as a volunteer and docent at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Victor was an avid sports fan and attended 59 Detroit Tiger home opener games in a row. He played on many baseball and softball teams and became an umpire after his playing days were over. He was a dedicated spectator at his daughters’ and granddaughter’s sporting and school events. He was a proud MSU Spartan supporter and followed their sports teams. He moved to West Branch on a full time basis in 2000. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4th from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch Michigan. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Internment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Michigan to follow at a later date.
