Vernon Thomas Meir

Vernon Thomas Meir, age, 82, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at West Branch Manor in West Branch, MI.  He was born on July 21, 1941, in West Branch to Leo and Ailene (Winter) Meir.

Vernon remained connected to his roots throughout his life, living in the Prescott and West Branch area for most of his life. He found joy and solace in various hobbies including farming, gardening, fishing, doing puzzles, hunting, and bird watching. His love for the outdoors was evident in the way he found peace and tranquility amongst nature.

He was a dedicated individual who worked for General Motors as a machine operator.  Vernon had retired after dedicating 37 years of hard work and commitment from Bay City Power Train. He was known for his work ethic and dedication to his craft.
 
Vernon is survived by his children: Jerry (Rita) Meir of Marysville, WA; Janice (Wayne) Winstead of Pacolet, SC; Jamie Meir of Waterford, MI; and Samantha (Matthew Irvine) Meir of West Branch. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his previous 1st wife Judy Goodboo of Pacolet, SC; sisters Linda (Harold) Stephens of West Branch and Leona (David) Dezsi of Southgate, MI; brother-in-law Juan Rey Froufe of Canada; and many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him.
 
Vernon was predeceased by his parents, siblings Marjorie Rey Froufe, Helen (Gerald) Reetz, and Benny Meir; grandson, Chad Thomas-Alan Meir; as well as his previous wife of 20+ years Mary Meir and his significant other Vickie Coward.
 
The memories created with Vernon Thomas Meir will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched. His legacy will live on through the stories shared by friends and family.
 
Visitation services will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church starting at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM.  Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in West Branch.
