Thomas Carl Raymond

December 10, 1944 — February 1, 2018

Fox News lost a loyal viewer and critic. As a result, the volume on the TV can now be turned down so his wife can hear herself think. And, pork bellies fell sharply as a result of losing a loyal bacon eater. On Thursday, February 1st, 2018, Thomas “Tom” Carl Raymond, age 73, passed away at his home, in Alger, surrounded by his loved ones that were often, like daily, the brunt of his jokes, which he did, right up to 48 hours before he passed. He was born on December 10, 1944, in Flushing, Mi, with the notion of driving fast, living on the edge, and getting him and his brother into all kinds of mischief, to Carl and Isabelle (Miller) Raymond, which predeceased him, obviously, from the stress.

Tom graduated from Flushing High in 1963, and went on to become a Journeyman Tool and Die maker for GM, until 1968, when he decided being in the shop was not for him, and went into home construction, where over the course of 12 years, he built hundreds of homes in the Genesee and surrounding counties. He was a master at whatever he did and from approximately 1980, and until he and his wife retired in 2010, he was a finish carpenter in the Bloomfield Hills area, building custom trim and cabinetry in many beautiful homes. He loved to work with heavy equipment, watch the news, complain about the news, tease his loved ones, make others laugh, and sit on his porch, looking out over the pond.

He is survived by his wife Mavis, of 35 years, daughters, Karen (Lewis) Sanborn, and Kris (Rick) Panetta from his previous marriage to Linda (Spinney) Kartes in 1964. Stepsons Tad (Karen) Scott, and Christopher (Amy) Scott. Sister Bonnie (Henry) Melton, of Florida and brother Bryon (Penny) Raymond, of Florida. Grandsons, Layne Fournier and Zachary (Harley) Sanborn. Step grandchildren Grace and Sophie Scott and Matthew Scott, 3 Great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, at his place of worship.

Written by daughters, Kris and Karen.
