Theresa May Thomas, a beloved restaurant owner, devoted family member, and compassionate friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in West Branch, MI, at the age of 97. She was born on October 3, 1927, in New Boston, MI, to parents Francis and Ethel (Hoagland) Larabell. Theresa lived a life adorned with kindness and love, striving every day to embody the values of her Christian faith through her actions and interactions with those around her.

She shared her life and work with her late husband, Chris, running a restaurant that was renowned not just for its warm atmosphere and delicious food but also for the welcoming heart that Theresa brought to every gathering. The joy of cooking and baking was one of her greatest passions, which she cherished not only in her professional life but also in the comfort of her home. Beyond the restaurant, Theresa’s entrepreneurial spirit saw her through various roles, including owning an antique shop and working as a sales lady at Milikens Store and Park Place Gift Shop.

Theresa was a devoted sister and cherished her time with her four sisters and brother, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Family was fundamental to Theresa; she reveled in family gatherings filled with laughter and love. Her unwavering dedication extended beyond her immediate family, as she was passionately involved in her community. Theresa volunteered at St. Francis funeral luncheons and was an esteemed member of the choir, where her warm presence and gentle spirit resonated with all who had the pleasure to know her.

Throughout her life, Theresa believed deeply in helping those in need. Her proudest accomplishments included her significant contributions to the Father Fred Foundation, as she tirelessly worked to aid the less fortunate, reflecting her profound compassion. She often served as a beacon of support for her family, always lending a helping hand or offering kind words.

Theresa is survived by her sisters, Bernice Hammermaster, Joan Kopec, and Linda Ferguson as well as many nieces and nephews.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Chris, her parents, and her loving siblings, sister Rosalie and brother Gerald. The love they shared and the memories they created will forever remain a treasured part of her legacy.

The funeral service will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate. Burial will be at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, MI.

Though her physical presence may be gone, Theresa's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her surviving sisters, her many nieces and nephews, and all who were touched by her warmth and generosity. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strong Christian values that will inspire generations to come. Her gentle soul will be remembered dearly, and her life serves as a reminder of the immeasurable impact one person can have on those around them.
