Terry Ray Dennis, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Rose City, MI, at the age of 80. He was born on June 4, 1944, in Saginaw, MI to George and Rosella (Palmanteer) Dennis. Terry lived a life filled with purpose, passion, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his community. He lived his entire life in Rose City.
After serving in the US Army, Terry embarked on a career that would define many of his years. He owned Terry’s Fruit Market in West Branch for several years. He then joined Forward Corporation in 1987, dedicating two decades to the company until his retirement in 2007. Following this chapter, he turned his long-standing love for firearms into a business, owning and operating Terry's Gun Shop for 17 fulfilling years. His membership in the N.R.A. was more than just an affiliation; it echoed his lifelong passion for the shooting sports.
Terry found joy in the simpler things in life, such as attending gun shows, shooting, and indulging in nostalgic television shows like "Rifleman" and "Gunsmoke", all at full volume. He took immense pleasure in mowing the lawn and often cherished moments over coffee, sharing laughter and stories with his buddies at the gun shop. Above all, nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the lights of his life.
His legacy continues through his two daughters, Jennifer (Allen) Hurley and Elizabeth (Shawn Mardlin) Dennis, along with his six grandchildren: Aaron (Shelby) Dougherty, Kristen (Jamie Daly) Dougherty, Morgan (Zach Palazzolo) Dougherty, Shelby (Sophia Harvey) Hurley, Keaton Orr, and Ethan Hurley. Each one carries forward the values and stories he instilled in them, ensuring that his spirit remains warmly alive in their hearts.
Terry is also survived by his sisters, Sally King and Shelley (Jack) Vliet, and nephews, Jeff, Steve, Jack (Tina), and Kyle and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ted Dennis, granddaughter Sadie Hurley, brother-in-law Norton King, and his friend and former wife, Irene Dennis-Gavin.
