Sylvia Ann Brewer

June 7, 1939 — February 29, 2024

Sylvia Ann "Sue" Brewer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on February 29, 2024, in West Branch, MI, at the age of 84. Born on June 7, 1939, in Roscommon, MI, Sue was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Her kind, thoughtful, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and community.

Sue was a proud graduate of Houghton Lake High School, where she enjoyed her studies and playing the trombone in the high school marching band. After graduation, Sue married and was a dedicated wife and mother.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Diane Brewer, Faye (David) Butler, and Laura (William) Knudson. Sue was a cherished grandmother to Lauren (Ben) Puckett, Tyler (Alexa) Butler, and Kenneth Knudson, and loving great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren. Her warmth and guidance shaped their lives in countless ways.

Sue was the sister to Melvin (Becky) Jenkins, Albert (Barbara) Jenkins, Clara (Ted) Bayne, Mary (Earl) Rabidue, and Dorothy (Leo) DeGroat. Preceding her in death were her parents, Melvin and Luella (Martin) Jenkins, her beloved husband, Willis, and her brothers, Kenneth, Darrell (Lillian), Carl (Dorothy), and Raymond. She shared a special bond with each of her siblings, filled with love and mutual respect. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she cherished those relationships with each one.

Sue relished her role as a Girl Scout leader, serving for many years. She would speak fondly of her scouting experiences as well as meeting her former girl scouts in their adult lives. Her love for gardening, canning, and sewing were not just hobbies but passions that she shared with her family and friends. Sue's hands were rarely still, as she was always creating something beautiful or tending to her cherished garden.

An avid sports enthusiast, Sue could often be found bowling strikes at the local alley or hitting the greens for a round of golf. Her competitive spirit was matched only by her fair play and sportsmanship. She was also a devoted fan of the Red Wings Hockey team, cheering them on with the same vigor she brought to every aspect of her life. In her work life, she brought her energy and dedication to Gould Rexall Drugstore and Valenite manufacturing.

Her funeral service will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch, MI on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 1:00 pm with visitation from 11-1pm. A memorial luncheon will follow at the Edwards Township Hall.
