Sue Carol Burke

December 23, 1943 — February 4, 2019

The cornerstone of our family, Sue Carol Burke, age 75, passed away peacefully February 4, 2019 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit with her loving family by her side. She was born in Royal Oak, MI on December 23, 1943. Being the firstborn to Wayne and Margaret (Buck) Mayhew, thus beginning her loving and maternal nature. Married on November 19, 1963, she became a beloved wife and best friend to her one and only love of 55 years, Bobby Burke. Sue resided in Lupton for 45 years. She retired from West Branch - Rose City Schools after working 25 years as a cook and took special pride in knowing all the children’s names that came through her line.

Sue’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for them, taking walks with friends, tending to her flower gardens, watching the variety of birds that came to her feeder, and loved getting her hair done at Joanie’s Country Curls in Lupton. Sue was also a lover of music, specifically Elvis, and sang beautifully in her church choir. Her adventurous spirit and love of travel took her on many escapades; most recently a trip to Ireland and Arizona.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bobby L. Burke of Lupton (originally from Lee County, VA); children, Dawn L. Burke of Whitmore Lake, Gregory L. Burke of Bay City, Terry H. (Laurie) Burke of Clinton Twp., and Amy S. (Jason) Long of Berlin Twp.; grandchildren, Krista (Kenny) Fritz, Lisa (Brian) Globke, Corey (Keri) Allie, Trevor, Emily and Logan Burke and Jennah and Tessa Long; great grandchildren, Karmen, Dakota, Landyn and Kenzington Fritz, Isabella and Clayton Globke, and Kate, Addison and Grady Allie; mother, Margaret Mayhew of Rose City; siblings, Lonnie (Lee) Mayhew, Laronna (Larry) Barnes, and Bradley Mayhew; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Wayne and brothers, David, Ricky and Mickey Mayhew.

Per Sue’s request, a short visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by an intimate burial at Lane Heights Cemetery in Lupton.
