Steve J. Kartes passed away April 30, 2005 after an extended illness. He was born on March 10, 1914 to Steve and Agnes (Grezeszak) Kartes. He was a farmer who had lived in Ogemaw County for all of his life. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. He married the former Beatrice Green on August 2, 1941 in West Branch. Mr. Kartes is survived by his wife Beatrice of West Branch, children, Melvia (Ed) Buckel and Raymond (Sally) Kartes both of West Branch, Marjorie (Rodger) Reinke of Linden and Anna (John)Chisa of Saginaw. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren his sisters Pauline Sumner of Port Huron and Irene Schmitt and his brothers, John Kartes and Robert Kartes all of West Branch. He was preceded in death by a brother Lawrence and four sisters, Rose, Alvina, Marie and Teresa. Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Sunday evening May 1, 2005 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Monday May 2, 2005 from 12 noon to 9:00 pm with a Scripture Service on Monday evening at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Robert Bissot and Fr. Richard Seifferly officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands, Bortz Health Care Facility of West Branch or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
