Stanley G. Koon

Stanley G. Koon, a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully at home in West Branch, MI on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on September 12, 1930, to John and Nina (Thomas) Koon in Flint, MI, Stanley was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and deep commitment to service.

A dedicated community member, Stanley was the former owner of the Jacksonville Store in West Branch and operated Koon's You Pick Strawberry Farm, where he cultivated not just crops, but lasting relationships with his patrons. His passion for agriculture and community involvement extended beyond his businesses; he was also one of the pioneering founders of Pioneer Power, an organization celebrated for its dedication to preserving agricultural history.

Stanley proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, dedicating years of his life to the service of his nation. His contributions did not end there; he was a life member of the Masonic Lodge in West Branch and of VFW Post #3775, reflecting his commitment to service and community.

In addition to his career and military service, Stanley was passionate about flying and antique tractors. He relished the thrill of piloting his own airplane, and his love for vintage machinery connected him to the rich history of farming and technology.

Stanley is survived by his beloved wife, Leah M. Koon; daughter Sharon (George) Gibbons-Socia; grandsons John and Mike Gibbons; brothers-in-law Stanley Liddell, Daniel (Arliss) Liddell, and James Liddell; along with many cherished nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will carry forward his legacy of hard work, dedication, and love.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Fred Koon, and son-in-law, John Gibbons. His memory will be honored by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Cremation has taken place.
