Shirley Ellen McClenahen, a steadfast pillar of her community and a beloved matriarch, departed this world on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the age of 89, in West Branch, MI. Born on April 27, 1935, in Olean, NY, Shirley lived a life full of compassion, service, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She lived in West Branch since 1990 formerly from Waterford, MI.
A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in West Branch, Shirley's faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and joys. Her involvement in the church was paralleled by her dedication to various organizations aimed at uplifting those in need. She was an active member of the Kiwanis, St. Vincent DePaul, and the Food Pantry, contributing her time and effort to help anyone who crossed her path. For over 25 years, she volunteered at the Hospice of Helping Hands, offering comfort and support to those facing illness—an act that exemplified her boundless kindness and empathy.
Shirley leaves behind a loving family who cherished her warm spirit and generous heart. She is survived by her son, Michael (Bernice) McClenahen of Gresham, OR, and her daughters, Lori (David) Reppuhn of Waterford, MI, and Amy Wellman of Milford, MI. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Christopher (Anna) McClenahen, Nicholas McClenahen, Stephanie (Jesse Dominquez) McClenahen, Phil (Becky) Reppuhn, Mark (Susan) Reppuhn, Paul Reppuhn, Brent (Colleen) Wellman, Chad (Ciara) Wellman, and Billie Wellman. Shirley was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy: Peyton, Malcolm, Zachary, Ryder, Gibson, Brenden, John, Griffin, Charlie, Logan, Jaxon, Cameron, Ariana, Roman, and Alia. She shared a special bond with her brother, Arthur (Joy) Moser, and was surrounded by the love of numerous nieces and nephews.
She is reunited in rest with her husband, Malcolm “Mac” McClenahen, whose memory remained a source of strength for her throughout her life, as well as her parents, Robert and Adah (Buchanan) Moser, her stepmother, Gladys Moser and great grandchild, Charlotte.
Shirley Ellen McClenahen's life was an embodiment of grace, kindness, and service. She touched countless lives, and her legacy of love and generosity will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. As her family gathers to remember and celebrate her extraordinary life, they take comfort in knowing her spirit will forever shine bright in their memories.
Visitation will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in West Branch on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Michelle Forsyth will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis of West Branch, and St. Vincent DePaul West Branch.
