Shirley A. Chouinard

Shirley Ann Chouinard, age 77, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Medilodge of Sterling surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 12, 1945, in Detroit, MI to Roy John and Delphine Dorothy (Reske) Sexton.

Shirley lived in West Branch since 1988, formerly of Madison Heights, MI. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch.

She was a homemaker and raised her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Shirley enjoyed ¼ track midget racing when she was young with her father Roy. She won trophies and multiple awards for her passion for racing. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and children at the track participating in Drag Race competitions. One win brought them to the attention of a local radio station where the family was given an on air interview.

Shirley is survived by her 5 children Deborah (John) Tumblin of Fairgrove, MI, Michelle (John) Morrison of Alger, MI, Thomas J. Chouinard Jr. of St. Helen, MI, Michael (Sonya) of Temecula, CA, and Brett (Mindy) Chouinard of West Branch; 18 grandchildren David (Amanda), Chad (Jessica), Kyle, Amber (Nick), Johnny (Alexcenah), Joshua (Arikka), Nicholas, Tommy (Kelly), Tiffany (Marcus), Tonya, Tim (Katie), Ashlee (Matthew), Courtney, Kaitlyn, Kylee (Robbi), Ariana, Brett Jr., and Renae; 23 great grandchildren Haley, Bradley, Matthew, Skylar, Alyssa, Gabe, Cayden, Kayliee, Lilianna, ZoeyJane, Paige, Jesslyn, Edison, Ivy, Vera, John Rowan, Nessa, Rose, Jaxin, Celeste, Bentley, Ivy and Kain; and her brother Roy Sexton Jr. of Roscommon, MI.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Thomas in 2004.

A memorial visitation will be at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate. Interment of ashes will be at Alger Cemetery.
