Sgt. Norman "Jr" Schmidt

SGT Norman “JR” E. Schmidt, Jr. age 33 passed away Monday, May 9, 2011 in Watertown, New York. JR was born in West Branch January 6, 1978 and spent his childhood in Rose City. He joined the U.S. Army in September of 2005 and did his basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Afterward, he was stationed in Kaiserslaughtern, Germany as part of the 230th Military Police Company and then served in Ft. Drum, New York as part of the 3-85th WTU Bravo Company. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, music and spending time with his family. JR is survived by his wife Bridgette Schmidt of Watertown NY, daughter Dakota Rose and his mother Rose Mary Gonzales of Rose City, his sisters, Nichole Uhl, Whitney Schmidt and Brooke Schmidt and his brother, Garrett Schmidt. Also surviving is his mentor “father” Melvin Killinger and Melvin’s wife Diane of Rose City, 3 nieces and his ex-stepchildren, Shadow, Sondra and Brandon. . Visitation at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rose City will be held on Saturday May 14, 2011 from 9-11 a.m. Service at 11:00 a.m. followed by the graveside service.
