Sandra Lynn Nesbitt, age 79 passed away at her home in West Branch on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Sandy has been a resident of West Branch since 1969, previously of Detroit, MI She was born on April 19, 1942 in Detroit, MI to Ivan and Margaret (Bubb) McColl. Sandy graduated in 1960 from Southfield High School, and then went on to get her bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1980 from Saginaw Valley College. After graduating college, she began her teaching career at St. Joseph Catholic School. She began as a 5th grade teacher for a few years and then moved to 4th grade, and there she stayed for the remaining of her career, until retirement for over 20 years of loyal service. She attended the St. Joseph Catholic Church, and most recently called Ogemaw Hills Church her home church. Sandy was very active in the community, volunteering her time with many different organizations. She enjoyed helping with the Ogemaw Historical Society, Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist School, tutoring many students throughout the years, helping the Girl Scouts as a leader and camp leader at Camp Wigwah, and helping at the Ogemaw District Library in Rose City. She enjoyed camping, quilting with her friends, scrapbooking, traveling, and spending time with her grand, and great grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her son, Bryon (Marina) Nesbitt, of Naples, FL; daughter, Terri Mier of West Branch; grandchildren, Thomas (Dustin) Angst of Elsie, MI, Abby (Drew) Mier of West Branch, MI, and Gregory (Katlyn) Mier of Prescott, MI; two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Owen; sister, Bonnie (Dean) Sahutske of Sterling Heights; nephew, Scott (Stephanie) MacPetrie, and niece, Jill (Dan) Davis.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Margaret McColl.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church in West Branch on Friday, May 7, 2021.
