Russell E. Withun

Russell Edward Withun, age 85 of St. Helen passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Hilltop Manor Health Care Center in Roscommon. He was born July 28, 1924 in Capac to the late Edward and Myrtle Withum. He married Eileen Meyers in 1946. Mr. Withun worked in supervision at GMC Truck and Coach for 37 years. He served in World War II and was wounded in service. He is a member of the VFW Post #5680 and a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He worked in Helping Hands in St. Helen for many years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, a son Gary (Kim) of Oxford, daughter, Carolyn (Tom) Powers of Joliet, IL, brother Eugene (Beverly), sisters Betty (Norman) Valant, Mary (Walter) Hillman, Dorothy Primeau, two granddaughters Angela and Nicole Withun. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Kenneth and Arthur and a sister, Florence Taylor. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the Hope Lutheran Church in St. Helen. Rev. Rodney Morrison, Pastor will officiate. Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Memorials to Heartland Hospice and Hope Lutheran Church, St. Helen, Michigan.
