Ross D. (Don) Baxter of Gladwin, formerly of Flint, passed away in Gladwin on December 24, 2009. Don was born in Kokomo, Indiana on May 29, 1923. He was raised in Flint and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945. He married Martha C. (Sally) Boudreau on September 11, 1943. Together they raised 13 children. Retiring from Fisher Body #1 in Flint, he moved to the Gladwin area. He enjoyed traveling to visit his children, fishing, squirrel hunting, reading and old movies. He harvested the largest buck in Oakland County in 1957. Don is survived by his children, Dawn (Earl) Brown, Kenny (Helen) Baxter, Mary (David) Wharram, Dale (Sandy) Baxter, Francis (Fran) Baxter, Phillip Baxter, David (Kelly) Baxter, Rita Baxter, Gerilynn (John) Baxter-Ebeling, Thom (Sherry) Baxter, Susie (Charlie) Baxter and Cecelia (Paul) Baxter-Heintz, 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sally and his son Paul. Visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010 until the time of the Mass at 12:00 p.m. Fr. Patrick Maher will officiate. Burial will take place at New Calvary Cemetery in Flint on Monday at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and the Salvation Army.
