Robert Lee England

Robert Lee England, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 06, 2014 at Bortz Health Care in West Branch, MI surrounded by his loving family. He has lived in West Branch since 1968, formerly of Detroit, MI. Robert was born on March 6, 1930 to Ivan “Oscar” and Viertel (Janess) England in Detroit, MI. Robert married Mary Bowles on April 10, 1954 in Angola, IN. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Robert was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1947 to 1957. He was also a middle weight boxer in the US Army and turned pro in 1957 and fought under the name Blackie Haynes. Robert fought at Heart Break Ridge in Korea where he sustained injuries and was awarded a Purple Heart. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Mary England of West Branch, MI; children: Jean (BJ) Willis of Trinidad, TX, Michelle (Bud) Hamilton of West Branch, MI, Rocky England (Rayne) of Alger, MI, Cheri (Kevin Tobian) Hill of Toledo, OH and Robin (Brad Hughey) Hoyer of Alger, MI; grandchildren: Brian (Katelyn) Herrera, Dustin (Rachael) England, Melissa (Gabe Watkins) Buhlman, Billy (Courtney) Campbell, Todd Doty, Jessica (Matt) Bennett, John Raymond, and Zoe Holbert; great grandchildren: Paityn, Brynn, Olivia, Ellisyn, Greyson and many step grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Robert was a father figure to many. Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Monday, September 8, 2014 from 1:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm. High Priest Richard Hamilton will officiate with veteran honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family.
