Robert J. Thompson, age 85 of Alger, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his home. Robert had lived in Alger since 2001, formerly of Auburn Hills, MI. Robert was born on June 15, 1926 in Pontiac to Francis and Mildred Thompson. He married Shirley R. Segler on August 1, 1947 in Pontiac. Robert was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, and served during the South Pacific Theater. Robert enjoyed pitching horseshoes, bowling, fishing, and hunting. Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley of Alger, daughters, Charyl (Will) Moore-Armsdon of West Branch, Tina (Robert) Hull of Luzerne, grandchildren, Tracy Moore, Jennifer (Robert) Poston, Donald Moore Jr., Amanda Hull, Amy Hull-White, and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sister, Vesta (Richard) Jones of Brown City and brother, Cecil (Alice) Thompson of Clinton Twp. He is preceded in death by brother, Grant Thompson and sister, Vivian Appling. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Alger Cemetery. Pastor Dan Stoneback will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Advantage.
