Robert G. Souva, age 72 of West Branch, passed away of natural causes on Thursday December 2, 2004 at his home. He had been in poor health for several weeks. He had lived in West Branch since 1998, formerly of Flat Rock. Born August 16, 1932, he was the son of Roy and Melvina Souva. He married JoAnn Valiquette on August 7, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockwood. He graduated from Henry Ford Trade School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Major. He also retired from Ford Motor Company after 14 years of service. Mr. Souva was a member of the American Legion Post #337 of Flat Rock, the Knights of Columbus #7328 of Mio and the VFW Post #6468 of Rose City. He enjoyed men's softball, bowling, golf, hunting and spending time with his family throughout his lifetime. Surviving are his wife JoAnn, sons--Stephen (Sally) Souva of Monroe, Scott (Cindy) Souva and Shawn (Rosie) Souva both of Flat Rock, Stanley (PoWha) of Rose City and daughters--Sharon (Jack) Warren and Sherla (John) Hill both of Flat Rock, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers John and Lloyd and a sister Virginia. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Friday December 3, 2004 from 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 7:30 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at Our Lady of the Woods Shrine in Mio. Fr. Joe Blasko will officate with burial following at Damon Cemetery, West Branch. A Memorial Service will also be held at a later date at St. Roch Catholic Church in Flat Rock.
