Robert Melvin Carlson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Sterling, MI. He was born on January 8, 1941, in Superior, WI to Stanley and Agnita (Anderson) Carlson. Robert's life was marked by dedication to both his family and his community. Robert lived in Sterling since 2020 formerly of West Branch, MI
On September 9, 1983, he married Rosa Santana in Geneva, IL.
Robert honorably served in the United States Navy 1958 to 1962. His military service shaped a strong sense of duty that he carried throughout his life. Following his time in the Navy, he devoted many years to his career at the Elgin Mental Health Care Center, where he touched the lives of countless individuals with his compassion and understanding.
Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge 522 in Elgin, IL and the American Legion and VFW in West Branch.
Beyond his professional life, Robert was a man of many interests. He found joy in fishing, a pastime that allowed him to connect with nature and reflect on life’s simple pleasures. He also had a creative spirit, taking pleasure in making unique belt buckles and visiting flea markets, where he often uncovered treasures.
Robert leaves behind his cherished wife, Rosa Carlson; daughter Debra (Dan) Mason; son David (Julie) Carlson; and four treasured grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Gerald (Alvina) Carlson, Louis Carlson, Geraldine Bailey, and Esther Carlson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Jamie and Anthony Carlson, and his brother Clarence Carlson.
Cremation has taken place, and the burial of ashes will be at Ogemaw Springs Cemetery in West Branch.
As we remember Robert Melvin Carlson, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family and community. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
