Richard Lee Burton Sr., age 82, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at his home in Rose City, MI surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 12, 1939 in West Branch, MI to Willard and Beatrice (Matthews) Burton.
Dick married Ruth Garnett in Waterford, MI on June 25, 1960. He lived in Rose City since 1995 formerly of Highland, MI.
Dick served in the United States Navy from 1959 – 1963. He was aboard the USS Independence and was very proud to serve in the U.S. Navy. He traveled to France, Spain, Italy, Azores, Newfoundland, Greece, Turkey, Cuba, Bay of Pigs in 1961, and Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and puzzles.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ruth Burton; son, Richard Burton Jr.; daughters, Laura (Bill) Barron and Tina (Mike) Bond; grandchildren, Emilly (Jake) Roche, Tyler Martin, Christopher (Lauren) Bond and Heidi Martin; great granddaughter, Harper Bond and one great granddaughter and one great grandson expected; and many nieces, nephews, beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, and close family friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Willard II.
Visitation will be at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City on Sunday, March 6, 2022 starting at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. The Ogemaw County Veteran Alliance will provide the veteran honors.
