Richard E. Rose

July 7, 1930 — January 23, 2011

Richard E. Rose (Dick) age 80 of Rose City, passed away January 23, 2011 at Bortz Health Care. He was a descendent of Rose City’s founding Father, Alan S. Rose. He was president of his 1948 Rose City High School graduating class. After serving in US Air Force during the Korean War, he returned to Michigan; graduating from Central Michigan University in 1957. During his 35 years as a US Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservationist he and his family lived throughout the state. He returned to his hometown in 1981. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a former member of the Rose City Lions Club and the Eagles Lodge of East Tawas. Richard is survived by his children Allen Rose of Washington, D.C., Rick (Michelle) Rose of Rose City and Tami (John) Wavrick of Charlotte, N.C., grandchildren, Jason (Amy), Lacie, Michael (Angel), Jessika, Grace (Brian), Lisa and great grandchildren Rylee, Chaz, Jolie, Amanda, Aiden and Shelby. Also surviving are his sister Lucille Allard of Bay City and brothers Leonard (Freida) Rose of Gladwin, Douglas (Beverly) Rose of Harrison and his sister in law Bonnie Rose of Saginaw. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his brother Willard, his mother Ada Mae Rose, his father Hiram Rose and step mother Clarice Rose. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 4 2011 at Holy Family Cemetery. The family will be present beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Patrick Maher will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rose City Historical Society.
