Richard Allen Westcott

Richard Allen Westcott “Stringbean”, age 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at his home in West Branch, MI. He was born on November 28, 1947 in Pigeon, MI to George and Wilma (Wideman) Westcott.

Rick served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a military policeman/detective co.272. He was an expert in rifle and pistol and sharpshooter (M-16 rifle).

Rick loved to ride his Harley Davidson’s, winning two bikes at the local rally in West Branch. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed being outdoors with his brothers, nephews, and buddies, Joel and Dustin cutting wood. Rick was also a true jokester pulling many pranks on his buddy Kevin and had an unending sense of humor.

Rick and Deb spent the winter in Florida, and he wanted to come home to spend his last days in West Branch. Thank you to his family and special friends who made this possible.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Deb Westcott; brothers, Robert (Mary) Westcott and Paul (Julie) Westcott; brother-in-law, David (Fran) King; sister-in-law, Kathryn (Paul) Holmes; nieces and nephews, Michael Westcott, Kristy Westcott, Tim (Elizabeth) Westcott, Jake Westcott, Jeff (Mandee Lomelin) Westcott, Rick (Lexi) Wright, Chris Wright, Ryan (Nicole) Holmes, Kyle (Kaitlin) Holmes, Ellen (Russ) Templeton, Chris (Stacia) King, and Elizabeth King; and fifteen great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Susan Pitts and in-laws, Raymond and Jean King and Mary Morris King.

There will be a memorial motorcycle ride at a later time.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Edwards Township Hall in West Branch with veteran honors beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Edwards Community Church Fund Attn: Kids Camp and Ogemaw County Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
