Raymond S. Kartes, age 64 of West Branch, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at his home. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Michigan Supreme Travel Club, Pheasants Forever and the NRA. He retired from General Motors in 1994. Ray is survived by his wife Sally Kartes of West Branch, his son, Michael (Elizabeth) Kartes of Boyne City, grandchildren, Weston, Landon and Ashlyn, his mother, Beatrice Kartes of West Branch, sisters, Melvia Buckel of West Branch, Marge (Rodger) Reinke of Linden and Anna (Jack) Chisa of Saginaw, his brother in law, Richard Hodgins of West Branch, sister in law, Judy Hodgins of Minnesota and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Kartes and brother in laws, Patrick Hodgins and Ed Buckel. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Friday, February 20, 2009 from 2-8 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Fr. Robert Bissot will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Ogemaw County or to St. Joseph Church for Masses in Ray’s name.
