Raymond Charles Nicol, 68 years, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at The Villa of Rose City with his family by his side. Ray had lived in Rose City for the past year, previously of Farwell and West Branch. He was born on December 4, 1947 to Charles and Ethel (Vogtman) Nicol. On January 11, 1991 he married Rebecca Lynn Clark in Saginaw Michigan. Ray proudly served in the Marine Corps, fighting in the Battle of Khe Sahn during Vietnam receiving the Purple Heart. He belonged to the VFW post #3039 in Farwell, and was also a member of the American Legion post 558 in Farwell. He was a member of the Farwell United Methodist Church and enjoyed his duties as a greeter and an usher. Ray was a lifetime member of the NRA, was an avid fisherman, hunter, loved camping and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his wife Rebecca Nicol, children Jennifer Crawford, Andrea Mueller, Kurt (Rebecca) Clark, Laura (Dave) Sisco, and Cheri Clark. He has nine grandchildren Evan, Jeremy, Season, Samara, Ashley, Joseph, Emily, Leah, and Levi. He also has one great grandson Spencer. Surviving siblings include William (Stashia) Nicol, Debby (Billie) Smith, Ardis McDonald, Leonard (Pat) Taig, Sid (Marcia) Taig, Jack (Diane) Nicol, David (Terri) Nicol and sister-in-law Darlene Taig. There are many nieces and nephews, and a special care giver Tammi Morris. He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and a sister.
A memorial, to include a military service, will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 12, 2016, at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home 109 E. Houghton Ave. West Branch, MI 48661. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm until the time of the service. Chaplin Rick McClendon will officiate.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to The Villa at Rose City for the Activities Department, 517 W Page St. Rose City MI 48654. The family would like to thank the Staff of The Villa at Rose City for the exceptional and compassionate care that they provided for Ray.
