Phyllis E. Pickering, age 79, of St. Helen, passed away at her home on Monday, July 24, 2006. She had lived in St. Helen since 1988, formerly of Flint. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Art Council of West Branch, the Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden, a member of the Bell Choir of Oak Park Methodist Church in Flint, and the Genesee County Medical Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for the Flint Area Hospice and was a chef for Weight Watchers. She belonged to a number of different golf leagues in the West Branch and Roscommon areas, and she enjoyed gardening, painting with oil and watercolors, bowling and she traveled extensively. Phyllis is survived by her husband,. Woodrow H. Pickering, M.D. of St. Helen, children; Ann Pickering of Dewitt, David (Sherry) Pickering of Grand Ledge, Nancy (Lyle) Boyer of Swartz Creek, and Michael Pickering of Mt. Morris, 4 granddaughters, Sadie (Byron) Tomlinson, Amber Pickering, Renee Pickering and Nicole Boyer, 2 great-grandchildren, Byron and Ryleigh Tomlinson and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in West Branch after 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery, West Branch. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of West Branch or to the Victorian Art Fair in the Park in West Branch in memory of Phyllis Pickering.
