Peter Jay Johannes, age 74, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 2, 2021 in West Branch. He was born on February 3, 1947 in Twining, MI to Alex and Magdalen (Henning) Johannes. Pete has lived in West Branch the last 48 years with his wife Judy of 54 years.
Pete graduated from Arenac Eastern High School in Twining and Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie. He served as an officer and a helicopter pilot in the US Army in Vietnam. Pete worked for Ogemaw County and the State of Michigan, retiring after 40 years of employment. He was a charter member of the local chapter of EAA and an associate member of the Timbers Flying Club at the West Branch Airport. Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying, mountain biking, cross country skiing, and amateur radio. He especially loved the time with his grandchildren and family.
Pete is survived by his wife, Judy Johannes (Rabineau) of West Branch; his children, Hans Johannes (Sarah) of Golden, Colorado and Krista (Jerry) Pudvan (Johannes) of Bay City; and his grandchildren Madelynn Johannes, Jerry Pudvan III, and George Geikas.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alex Johannes; his mother, Magdalen Johannes; and his sisters, Anna Johannes and Sandra Penberthy (Johannes).
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in early 2022.
