Paul B. Couture

Paul B. Couture, affectionately known as "Frenchy," or to his grandchildren as “Grand-Pere” was born on Saturday, February 22, 1941, in Flint, MI. He passed away suddenly on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the age of 83 in St. Helen, MI.

Paul dedicated 33 years of his life working as a Tool & Die/Machinist for General Motors Chevrolet Die & Engineering, retiring in 1994. He was a proud graduate of Flint Central High School, completing his education in 1959. Later he attended Mott Community College, focusing on the General Motors Skilled Trades program. Throughout his life, Paul was known for being very smart, with the remarkable ability to fix anything that needed repairing. His kindness and great sense of humor were well-known among family and friends, always ready to share a joke.

Outside of work, Paul enjoyed various hobbies, including Jeep trail riding with his wife, Jessie, kids and grandkids, riding dirt bikes with the family, and camping in the St. Helen Trails area. He loved walking his dogs, caring for his birds, and he was known as a "jack of all trades", taking pride in his many skills and interests.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Jessie Couture, who resides in St. Helen, MI. His children include son Paul F (Joan) Couture of Mt. Morris, son Richard Couture of Grand Blanc, and daughter-in-law Janet Couture. Paul was also the cherished grandfather to Paul E Couture of Mt. Morris, Kristen Couture of Genesee Twp., Amy (Lance) Lamson of Swartz Creek, and Nick (Emily Francis) Perry-Heddy of Otisville. He adored his 6 great-grandchildren, Jayden O'Brien, Rylie O'Brien, Mason Perkins, Alexis Lamson, Aria Lamson, and Lyla Perry-Heddy. Paul is survived by his brother in-law Robert (Margaret) Studer of Flint and sister-in-law Virginia Drury of St. Helen, along with many nieces and nephews. His best friend, Bob Shaver, held a special place in his life and the family can’t thank him enough for all his help he has provided when he needed it the most.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Melville and Dorothea (Beatty) Couture, his son Daniel Couture, great grandson Myles Gordon and brothers-in-law Doug and Elmer Drury.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen, MI. 

Paul was a kind and loving man who touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will be laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in St. Helen, MI.
