Norman M. Mccormick

June 30, 1930 — August 29, 2010

Norman M. McCormick, age 80 of Gladwin, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 at The Brook in West Branch. Mr. McCormick had lived in Gladwin since 1995, formerly of Genesee. He served in the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant in the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict, and was a P.O.W. during both tours. He received a Purple Heart, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star. He retired from the Army after 25 years. He also retired as a Lieutenant from the Genesee County Sheriff Department after 21 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Post #822 of Flint and a member of the Eagles of West Branch. He attended the Oak Grove Log Cabin Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Norman is survived by his children, Mary Carr of Derby, VT, Michael (Sue) McCormick of Otter Lake, Patrick McCormick of Melbourne, FL, Margaret (Brad) Duncan of Fort Worth, TX and Norma McCormick of Atlanta, GA, 6 grandchildren, Marcy, Melanie, Nathan, Katrina, Tabitha and Sarah, 7 great-grandchildren, Patrick, Morgan, Erik, Kathleen, Jonathan, Michael and Alex. Also surviving are his brothers, William Persails and Leo Persails and his step-brother, Guy Trombley and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William Carr, parents, William and Mary and his step-father William Persails. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 1-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Edwards Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands, West Branch
