MSGT Joseph Max Lauwers, USAF Ret. “Joey”
October 3rd, 1966 - August 17th, 2020
Joseph Max “Joey” Lauwers was born on October 3rd, 1966 in Livonia, Michigan. At 9 years old, Joey announced he wanted to join the air force, and at 17 he made that dream come true, He proudly served all over the world, including in Special Ops, for 26 years, retiring at the rank of master sergeant.
He leaves behind his daughter, Holly (Stephen) Shakeshaft of Raeford, North Carolina, his mother, Jean Lauwers of Rose City, Michigan, his sister Amy (Lori) Davidson of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the love of his life, Denice Wolletz-Milazzo of Charlevoix, Michigan, his nephew Matthew (Emily) Davidson of Portland, Oregon, niece Sara (Cody) Davidson of Goodrich, Michigan, two great-nieces, and many relatives, friends, and other people who loved him. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Lauwers, Jr.
Joey has always led with his heart and never met a person who remained a stranger. He volunteered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard and Rolling Thunder, NC Chapter #1.
Joey died from accidental drowning after rescuing his love’s 10-year-old grandson in rough waters.
A memorial will be planned for Saturday, October 3rd, 2020.
