Michael John Raymond

Michael John Raymond, age 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024, in West Branch, MI. He was born on November 21, 1942, in Detroit, MI to LaVerne and Geraldine (Brenner) Raymond. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated member of his community, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Michael’s career was marked by a significant dedication to his profession. He worked at Tolfree Memorial Hospital in West Branch as an anesthesia provider, where he was renowned for his unwavering commitment to delivering quality and safe anesthesia care. His 24-year commitment to serving the West Branch community earned him recognition in the form of a plaque from the Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthesia, a testament to his professionalism and compassion.

Beyond his professional life, Michael was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he also served on the Finance Committee. His faith and service to the church were integral parts of his life, reflecting his strong personal values.

Michael was united in marriage to Katherine Middleton on June 5, 1965, in West Branch, a partnership that was one of his proudest accomplishments.

A man of many interests, Michael found joy in various hobbies, including making down-filled jackets, crafting homemade wine, flying drones and kites, and taking pride in artisan bread-making. He enjoyed the serenity of nature through fishing, camping, and practicing natural photography. Michael also loved to engage in playful competition playing cards and embraced the adventure of traveling. He had a lifetime love of sports that included playing basketball, golfing, and softball, while being an ardent follower of Michigan State.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Raymond; his children Christopher (Lois) Raymond, Kelly (John) Hookstead, and Gregory (Jenny Gaulin) Raymond, his grandson, Ethan Hookstead; and his siblings: Sally Mier, John (Bea) Raymond, Tim (Anne) Raymond, and Amy Lewis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The memorial service will take place at Holy Family Catholic Church in West Branch, on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate. Burial of ashes will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.

Michael's memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends as they come together to honor him during this difficult time.
