Michael Louis Marchewitz, lovingly known as "Fishnose" to family and friends, has gone to that perfect fishing spot far above. He passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the age of 74. Michael was born on January 6, 1950, and grew up in Rochester Hills, MI, and most recently resided in West Branch, MI.
Michael had a zest for life and pursued his favorite hobbies with passion. An avid hunter and fisherman, he had an uncanny ability to find the perfect fishing spot which earned him his nickname of "Fishnose". His best friend, Phil, also taught him how to skin a deer with a razor blade in under an hour which was quite the accomplishment!! Michael also found solace in outdoor and indoor gardening and spending time outdoors. He was a DEVOTED animal lover and rescued countless animals throughout his life.
Beyond his outdoor pursuits, Michael had a deep love for music, particularly rock ‘n roll from the 60's and 70's. His extensive knowledge of bands and musicians from that era was impressive, and his very favorite band was Emerson Lake and Palmer. He also had the sweetest of teeth for ANYTHING chocolate and loved to try out the latest candy bars on the market.
Michael was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He cherished spending time with his wife Kim, whom he adored. Together, they enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. Michael always found a way to get the most out of life and found joy in the simple things in life as well, like taking walks with the cat and dog which always cracked up the neighbors.
In his professional life, Michael retired from Chrysler Automotive after a fulfilling career. Prior to that, he worked as a security guard and had many various jobs, including cutting and selling wood and driving a truck for a lumber company.
Beyond his hobbies and work, Michael held his family close to his heart. He was survived by his beloved wife Kim Marchewitz and their children: Susan (Joe) Rogers, Michael (Noemi) Vinson, Melissa Mitchell, and Rachel (Scott) Putnik; grandchildren Haley and Wylie Sutton, Christian Vinson, Michael T.J. Vinson, Brandon Grandos, Trevor Vinson, Elizabeth, Calvin, and Morris Mitchell, and Austin and Gage Putnik, He is also survived by his siblings: John Marchewitz, Mary Kurzava, and Lori Butterfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene Jerome and Irene Elizabeth (Ferguson) Marchewitz and siblings Karen Nelson and Tom Marchewitz.
Michael's impact on others was profound. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and radiated friendliness. Involved in his local church, he exemplified kindness and compassion.A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday, July 13th, at The China Inn at noon. The address is 601 W. Houghton Ave. West Branch, MI. 48661. It was Michael's wish that everyone gets together and have a meal together, his treat.
In his memory, donations can be made to the Humane Society, or the local animal shelter of your choice, as he had a very special place in his heart for all of God's creatures.
Michael will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of generosity, love, and outdoor adventure will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
