Merle G. Kangas, age 67, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2005 at his home. He resided in Lupton since 1968, formerly of Rose City and was the owner/operator of the Sunrise Cafe in Lupton for 17 years. Merle was a veteran of the U.S. Army and completed a 3 year tour in Germany after extensive basic training. He enjoyed hunting and farming. Surviving family members include sons Rick (Jenny) Kangas, Tom (April) Kangas and Travis (Amanda) Kangas all of Lupton; grandchildren Ricky, Raymond, Brittani, Steven, Brooke, Cassey, Trent, Allie and Gage; brother Bill (Fran) Kangas of Curtis, Michigan and sisters Bonnie (Paul) Bragg of West Branch and Jean (George) Erickson of Prescott. Preceding Merle in death was his wife Patricia, brother Jack and parents George and Jan Kangas. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will be on Monday November 21, 2005 from 4-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 22, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor John Powell will officiate. Burial will follow immediately after the funeral service at Lane Heights Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
