Melvin M. Murphy

Melvin M. Murphy of West Branch and Livonia, age 82, died 9/18/10 after fighting Parkinson’s. Loving husband of 53 years to the late Veronica. Dear Father of Elaine Joyce (Stephen) Bair and Cheryl Lee (Brant) Emard. Beloved Grandfather of Mary Brown, Mark Erwin, Terri Ceislik, Katrina Tucker, April Echoubi, Rebekkah Hoffman, Josh Bivins, Tim Bivins and Pam Bivins. Beloved Great Grandfather of 14. In 1952, Melvin joined the Livonia Police Department and quickly climbed the ranks to Lieutenant. Melvin was the oldest brother to Norman, Harry, Robert and Alice (Zalock), the late Mildred (Walter) Herrmann and the late Jerry Murphy. Melvin had a full life and truly enjoyed his many hobbies, including obtaining a Pilot’s license and flying, riding motorcycles, building and racing figure-8 cars, and restoring antique cars. Special thanks to Hospice Advantage and caregivers Patty Riedel, Amy Hribek, and Bev Hribek. Melvin’s dry sense of humor will be missed. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Monday, September 20, 2010 from 5-9 pm. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 1:00 pm with visitation prior from 11:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
