Melvia A. Buckel, age 79, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Horizon Senior Living in West Branch. She was born on May 12, 1942 in West Branch to Steve and Beatrice (Green) Kartes.
Melvia lived in West Branch her entire life. She married Edward Buckel on June 24, 1961. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Faith Alive Church, the Council of Catholic Women, past 4-H Leader and Girl Scout Leader.
She enjoyed old country music, visiting her son in Arizona, helping people, baking cookies and her famous “hug” coupon. Melvia especially enjoyed spending her time with her family.
Melvia is survived by her children, Annie Parrish and Denise (Dale) Johnson both of West Branch, and Ed (Jim Smith) Buckel Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Lynnette (Jeremy) Card, Megan (Alex) Henry, Carrie (John) Raymond, James (Alixandria) Parrish, Sarah (William Moody) Parrish and Jordan Smith; great grandchildren, Markie, Ariel, Brynn, Alaina, Raelyn, and Amelia. Also surviving are her sisters, Marjorie Reinke of North Branch and Anna Chisa of Saginaw, and sister in law, Sally Kartes of AZ.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward Sr., great granddaughter, Dakota, son in law, Ron, brother, Ray and brothers in law, Rodger and Jack.
Visitation will be held at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A scripture service will be held at 5:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Chad Deerman. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Father Emmanuel Finbarr will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Faith Alive Church, St. Joseph Catholic School and Compassus Hospice.
