Maurice Elmer Myers, age 89, passed away with family by his side on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at The Villa of West Branch. Moe lived in West Branch since 1977 previously of Port Huron, MI. He was born on June 1, 1931 in Port Huron to Dougdale and Ida (Basnaw) Myers. He married Betty Precour on May 13, 1961 and they shared 58 years of marriage.
Moe served in the United States Navy from 1949-1951 and the United States Air Force from 1951-1954, both during the Korean War. He continued to serve his country as the Ogemaw County Veteran of the Year in 2011 and as a member of the American Legion, Veteran Alliance, Disabled American Veterans, Relay for Life, and the Veteran Honor Guard. He placed veteran flags on the graves, sent packages to service members and helped with the poppy sales for the American Legion.
He was employed at Mueller Brass in Port Huron and he owned the Port Huron Muffler Shop. Moe worked at Michigan Bell as a mechanic and retired in 1993. He enjoyed feeding the animals and birds and spending time with his beloved dogs, Buddy and Minnie Me. He was a joke teller and earned the nickname “Sweet” since he loved cinnamon candies.
Moe is survived by his children, Dale (Karen) Myers, Steven (Kristin) Myers, Deborah McIntyre, Diane (Ken) White and Brian Myers; 22 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; and sister, Joan Martin. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty in June 16, 2019, son, Maurice Myers, daughter, Kathryn Myers, brother, Robert Myers, brother-in-law, Bill Martin and grandson, Christopher Buckberry.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A graveside service with Veteran Honors will be held at 12:00 p.m., in the chapel, at the Brookside Cemetery in West Branch. Pastor George Spencer will officiate.
Visitation for Moe will be held with precautions due to the current pandemic, limiting the number of attendees at a given time.
