Mary Jane Nagy, age 81, passed away with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Marys of Michigan Standish Hospital. Mary Jane lived in Sterling, MI for most of her life. She was born to Bryan and Theresa (Winter) Brewer on February 22, 1933 in West Branch, MI. Mary Jane married Arthur Nagy on December 27, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. She was a school teacher where she primarily taught for over 30 plus years at Standish-Sterling Schools. Mary Jane was a member of the MEA Retired and St. Stephens Catholic Church. She enjoyed square dancing, casino trips, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Mary Jane helped her husband, Arthur, on the farm and she also enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards, and was known for her great sense of humor.
Mary Jane is survived by her loving children: Connie (Bill) McBride of Standish, Bryan (Pamela) Nagy of Sterling, Peter (Kelly) Nagy of Sterling, Amy (Andrew) Thorner of Wayne; grandchildren: Benjamin, Jonathan, Katie, Nolan, Aaron, Jacob, Danitra, Cliff, Christi, Kayleigh, Andrew; 19 great grandchildren; and sister-in-laws: Doris Brewer of Tawas, and Marion Brewer of West Branch. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 2013, brothers: Edsel and Ben Brewer; and parents: Bryan and Theresa Brewer.
Visitation at Steuernol McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch, MI will be Friday, April 11, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, Mary Jane will lie in state at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Skidway Lake at 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life Mass at 11:00 a.m. Father Lawrence Boks will officiate. Burial will take place at Clayton Township Cemetery in Sterling, MI.
