Mary Ellen Janssen, age 76, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at her home in St. Helen with her family by her side. She was born on February 4, 1942 in Detroit to Norbert and Mary (Schlaff) Esper. Mary Ellen had lived in St. Helen for the past 16 years, formerly of Dearborn. She married Robert Janssen in Dearborn on April 20, 1963. She was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church. Mary Ellen was an avid reader, fantastic cook, enjoyed trips with her sisters to the casino and singing in the choir. Whatever she did, she did it to the best of her ability.
Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bob; mother of, Debra M. DeGuise, John N. Janssen, Robert A. and Debra M. Janssen, Gary M. Janssen; grandmother of Lynnae M. DeGuise, John R. DeGuise, Adam R. Janssen, Stephanie E. Janssen; daughter of the late Mary C. and Norbert F. Esper; sister of the late Jack Esper (Mary), Donald and Judy Esper, Michael and Marilynn Esper, Cathy and Leo Hintz, Norbert and Sue Esper, Rose and David Forsthoefel; and many loving sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Vigil and Rosary at 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at the St. Helen Catholic Church on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Father Wayne Dziekan and Sister Barbara Matievich O.P. will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Helen Catholic Church.
