Martha Lee Lynett

Martha Lee Lynett, aged 76, died peacefully at home in West Branch, MI with her family by her side on Sunday, June 12, 2016 after a brief struggle with cancer (a disease she had once defeated 40 years ago). Martha was born June 16, 1939 in West Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of Pete and Ruth Drury.

Martha was raised in Ferndale and attended Central Michigan University, where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. It was while attending college that Martha met the love of her life, James Robert Lynett. They married on February 7, 1959. Martha was an elementary educator in Rose City and West Branch for 25 years, and was once named Ogemaw County’s Professional Woman of the Year.

Martha loved the outdoors; she enjoyed hiking and kayaking, and was a gifted gardener. She was a talented cook and developed a passion for quilting, designing beautiful creations for her family. She relished the company of her family and friends; playing games, laughing, conversing, entertaining (especially her Christmas brunch), and passing her skills on to her grandchildren.

Martha is survived by James Robert Lynett, her loving husband of 57 years, her sister Carla Bice and brother John Drury, her children Joseph (Laurie Burgin) Lynett of Westland, Jeffrey Lynett of Shelby Township, Carrie Boddy of West Branch, Tracy (Robert) Gerow of Holland, and Ann (Michael) Lambert of Big Rapids; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m.
