Mabel Gladys Burns, age 96 went home to be with her Savior on Monday, June 27, 2011 at Bortz Health Care in Rose City. Mabel Hughes was born on July 17, 1914 on the Hughes family farm near Damon to Eugene and Frances (Neidhardt) Hughes. Mabel was the last surviving member of the Hughes family. She retired from National Bank in Detroit after 16 years of service. Mabel formerly lived in Kingman AZ and was a ball room dance instructor until the age of 79. Mabel is survived by her son Ron (Mary) Burns of Rose City, grandchildren, Julie, Janet, Sharon and Colleen and 2 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Owen. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Burns in 1991, her son Richard in 2006, grandson, James Robert Burns in 1994, her siblings Melvin Hughes, Florence McGregor, Edna Segar, Clara Cornman, Olive Ballard and Helen Sim. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 3-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Deacon Glen Painter will officiate with burial following at Rose City Cemetery.
