Louise E. DeMatio, age 88, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Gladwin Nursing and Rehab Centre. Lou had lived in the West Branch area since 1940. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a past member of the Ladies Aid, past Edwards Township Clerk, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3646, the Farm Bureau and an active member of the American Cancer Society. Lou is survived by her children, Judy (John) Mitchell of West Branch and Donald (Mary) DeMatio of Gladwin, 4 grandchildren, Jeff, Julie, Tony and Kim and great-grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew and Brennan. Also surviving are her sisters, Helen Roberts, Sally Ciaciuch and Gerry Beson all of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, her parents, Theodore and Rachel (Rivet) Schumann, brothers, Roy, James and Mike and sisters, Genevieve, Catherine, Patricia, Mary Ellen and Carol Ann and a very special friend, Dennis Wangler. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 1-9 p.m. On Friday there will be an Eagles Service (time to be announced later) and a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. Fr. Patrick Maher will officiate with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Branch. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
