Lloyd "Red" Powers

Lloyd “Red” Powers, age 75, passed away Tuesday July 16, 2013 at his home. Red lived in Alger since 2000 and was previously from Gibraltar, Michigan. He was born to Joseph and Lilly Mae Powers on March 14, 1938 in LaFollette, Tennessee. Red was a member of the Eagles Club and played banjo in bluegrass bands. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an excellent pool player. Red is survived by his wife Dolores Powers of Alger, his children, Lloyd Ralph (Danielle) Powers of Alger, Perry Lee (Sheryl) Powers of Carleton, Lisa Mae Powers of Monroe, Tonya Sue Chapman of Allen Park, Debra Kay (Eric) Pelkey of Trenton, and Shana Renae Powers of Alger, his grandchildren Johnathan Powers, John Palmer, James Chapman, Joshua Palmer, Lee Powers, Joseph Powers, Brenna Chapman, Joshua Chapman, Thomas Pelkey, Matthew Pelkey, Michaela Chapman, and Timothy Pelkey, his great grandchildren, Kaleb, Amiyah and Rylee. Also surviving are his brother Hershel (Virgie) Powers of Speedwell, TN, sisters Alene (Clifton) Leach of Frankfort, IN, Geneva (Robert) Hunley of Speedwell, TN and sister-in-law Alice Powers of Campbellsville, KY. He is preceded in death by his son Orville Powers, parents, Joseph and Lilly Mae Powers, brothers Charles Powers, Alvin Powers, Ira Powers, Estel Powers, and his sister Ruby Hudson. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 3-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the funeral home. Paster Chad Deerman will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Helping Hands of West Branch.
