Leon H. Eastman

September 1, 1914 — January 17, 2005

Leon Harold Eastman, 90 of Prescott and West Branch, went home to a beautiful garden on Monday January 17, 2005 after a courageous battle. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 20, 2005 at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch at 1:30 P.M. Pastor Tom Spencer will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Selkirk Cemetery. Mr. Eastman was born September 1, 1914 in Livington County to John Albert Eastman and Maude Louise Steinhauser. He moved to Ogemaw County at the age of 2. He lived and farmed the family homestead until 1997, then moved just down the road. Mr. Eastman was a farmer and a carpenter working on many of the houses around Lake Ogemaw. Leon is known for the Eastman Ranch, raising sheep and quail on M-55. He married Beulah Craner on February 4, 1983. He was retired from farming and enjoyed woodworking; many in the area are proud owners of his beautiful bird houses and shadow boxes. Leon also enjoyed reading, nature, gardening and visiting with friends and family. Mr. Eastman will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Beulah, her daughter Sharon Griggs and family, special stepdaughter, Cathy Verellen and Rolland, other step children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many many friends. He will also be missed by his sister Flora Higgins of Farwell, brothers, John of Clio and Mac(Shirley) McGarvey of Flushing. He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, brothers, Howard and Raymond and sisters Joyce Heath and Francis King. A special thanks to Hospice of Helping Hands and his special caregivers, Ann, Barb and others who made it possible for him to stay in his home. Donations may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands or a charity of your choice.
