Lawrence Robert Nicholson passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2025, in Prescott, MI, at the age of 84. Born on July 25, 1940, in Monroe, MI, Lawrence's journey through life was marked by dedication, passion service, and a deep appreciation for family.
Lawrence graduated from St. Clair Shores High School in 1958, demonstrating an early commitment to excellence as he went on to attend the University of Buffalo. While there, he showcased his athleticism by playing football, both as a center and defensive lineman. His love for sports continued throughout his life, notably his enthusiasm for Notre Dame football and hockey.
Lawrence embarked on a commendable career with the Taylor City Police Department, where he served diligently for 25 years before retiring in 1988. His commitment to public service was not only a career but a reflection of his character, underscoring his deep-seated values of integrity and community commitment.
After retirement, Lawrence moved to Seney, MI, in the upper peninsula, finding solace in the beauty of nature until 2015 when he relocated to the Houghton Lake and Roscommon area. In 2022, he made Prescott his home, continuing to enjoy the tranquility that northern Michigan offers.
An avid outdoorsman, Lawrence cherished moments spent hunting and fishing, exploring the natural wonders that Michigan has to offer. Among his proudest accomplishments, he was a national champion in the 25-yard standard pistol shot, a testament to his precision and skill.
Lawrence is survived by his son, Pete (Kohli Riggs) Nicholson, along with stepsons Joe Giles and David Reece.
He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Marie (Barton) Nicholson,
Per his wishes cremation has taken place.
