Laura E. Blumenthal

Laura E. Blumenthal, age 96, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 in Alpena. Laura was born June 15, 1913 in Clio to the late Charles and Ethel (Boulton) Scutts. Laura moved to West Branch in 1932 and was employed as a stenographer for many years. She married Ivan Blumenthal on March 31, 1943 and lived in West Branch until December 2009 when she moved to Alpena to be closer to family. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in West Branch and sang in the church choir for over 25 years. She was also a life member of the Zion Rose Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Tolfree Hospital Auxiliary both in West Branch. Laura is survived by her son David (Sandra) Blumenthal of Alpena and three grandchildren, Lisa (Allan) Soros of St. Johns, Jeff (Amy) Blumenthal of Ossineke and Amy (Tim) Boyd of Alpena as well as eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan in 1972 and her twin brother Lawrence Scutts in 2009. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in West Branch on Monday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Philip Seitz officiating. Friends may call at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Sunday, June 13 from 3-8 p.m. and at Trinity Episcopal Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Monday. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery in West Branch. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church of West Branch or Hospice of Michigan.
