Kenneth Edward Gildner, affectionately known as Ken "Fuzzy," passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 7, 1939, in West Branch, MI, Ken's life was marked by his passion for motorcycling and the robust connections he forged within his community.
He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in West Branch. On August 11, 1962, he married Joyce Jameson.
From a young age, Ken demonstrated a profound love for riding, which began with the Saddle Bum Club and horses before he transitioned to motorcycles. In 1963, he opened Gildner’s Cycle Shop, where he sold notable brands such as BSA, Triumph, Rickman, and Ossa. He expanded his business in 1980 by acquiring the Harley-Davidson brand, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the motorcycle community. Ken's dedication to his craft was not just a job; it represented a lifestyle that he shared with his wife, Joyce. The couple traveled the country attending dealer meetings, further solidifying their commitment to the Harley-Davidson brand.
Throughout his life, Ken was an active member of various organizations, including St. Joseph Catholic Church, the West Branch Chamber of Commerce, the Michigan Harley Davidson Dealer Association, and the Knights of Columbus. He also contributed to the American Motorcycle Association and the National Rifle Association. Ken took pride in being involved with the HOG club, serving on the Downtown Development Authority, and organizing both the Michigan HOG rallies and the Jack Pine run as well as ice racing events.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Ken was cherished by many as a beloved bus driver for the WBRC Schools, remembered fondly by all who rode his bus. His passion for community and connection extended into his personal life, where he enjoyed activities such as hunting, particularly bear hunting in Lanse’, Jeep riding, and spending time with his family. Notably, he looked forward to his Friday Night "safety committee" meetings.
Ken is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce, and his daughters Pam (Keith) Gancer of Kalkaska, Cheryl Gildner of Potterville, Jody (Rex) Rosebrugh, and Kendra (Eric) Ireland of West Branch. He was a proud grandfather to Isaac (Nadelle) Rosebrugh, Kim (Mike) Provoast, Kelly (Jeff Schagel), Jake (Carli) Rosebrugh, Nora, Lucas, Sara, and Jason Gildner, Laila Ireland, and Kennedy Hornbacher. Ken also embraced his role as a great-grandfather to Brooke, Madison, Lane, Bella, Maylee, Easton, and Saige. He is survived by his brother Albert (Ruthann) Gildner and sisters Carolyn (Ron) Neubecker and Elaine Mazoch; and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Grace (Whitney) Gildner, his brother Robert, and his lifelong friend Butch David.
As we remember Kenneth Edward Gildner, we honor a man whose legacy is defined by his dedication to family, community, and a lifelong love of motorcycles. His spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
