Kenneth Dean Carlson, 78, of St. Helen passed away September 5th, 2014. Ken was born in Ironwood, Michigan on January 3rd, 1936 to Walter and Elsie Carlson. Ken was the owner of Nolan Fence Company and Store Away in St. Helen, and has lived in St Helen for over 30 years when he moved there from Royal Oak, Michigan. Prior to moving to St. Helen, Ken was the original franchise owner of Ziebart Rustproofing shops in the Detroit area which he operated for 25 years. Ken enjoyed many years of hunting deer and partridge in the surrounding area, as well as hunting with his brothers in the UP. He was also an avid golfer, and a lifelong Lions fan. Ken is survived by his wife Dolores of 59 years, his children Ken Carlson (June) of Haltom City Texas; Beth Austin (Mike) of Ada, Michigan; and Tina Clark (Brian Cox) of Manistee, Michigan; grandchildren Ryan, Jacob and Mason; and brothers Keith (Nancy) and Ronnie. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and 3 sisters. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in Ken's name can be made to the Richfield Township Public Safety Committee. Arrangements were handled by Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen, MI.
