Joseph J. Nestor, 79, passed away peacefully at home on Friday November 22, 2013. He was born on August 24, 1934 to Helen Nestor in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Joseph played one season with the New York Yankees in a farm team in the 1950’s. He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956. After his service, Joseph moved to New Jersey and worked as a steel worker on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. He also worked for Johnson & Johnson in both Texas and New Jersey. Joseph later moved to Michigan and worked in the meat industry as a Plant Manager at Brechteen in Mount Clemens, Michigan where he then retired. After retiring, Joseph worked at Metro Park Systems in Macomb County for short period of time. Afterwards he moved to St. Helen, Mi and was a member of the Higgins Lake/Houghton Lake Elks Club, Knights of Columbus in St. Helen, St. Helen Catholic Church, and Grayling Gun Club. Joseph enjoyed golfing, shooting at the range, and reading. Joseph is survived by his wife Judy, daughters: Margaret (Robert) Crawford of New Baltimore, MI and Jennifer (Josh Love) Nestor of Sterling Heights; grandchildren: Derek Crawford and Ria Crawford; several step children and step grandchildren; as well as his sister, Betty Ann (Fred) Herman. He is preceded in death by his mother Helen Filipski; sisters: Barbara and Jean Marie; and brother, Ted. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm with a K of C Rosary immediately following. On Tuesday November 26, 2013 visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at St. Helen Catholic Church with funeral mass at 12:00 pm. Father Joe Muszkiewicz and Sister Barbara Matievich, O.P. will officiate. Memorial Contributions can be made to Hospice Advantage or Higgins Lake/Houghton Lake Elks Club.
